Welcome to the Greece photography tour that will reveal to you the authentic beauty of this legendary country. We will start our Greece photo tour in the colorful town of Thessaloniki where we will have a traditional Greek welcome dinner and visit the only photography museum in the country. Prepare to unfasten your belt because in Greece food has two main qualities – mouthwatering and more than plentiful.
We spend the night in Thessaloniki and prepare for our trip to Prespa Lakes the following day.
We will leave Thessaloniki in the morning and travel for the gorgeous area of Prespa Lakes where traditional Greek fishermen communities live. Divided between Greece, Albania and Macedonia, the Prespa Lakes regioni is a breathtaking area with diverse wildlife and landscape.
It will take us four hours to travel to Prespa Lakes from Thessaloniki and, once we get there, we will spend our day focusing on landscape photography. We will also get the chance to visit the abandoned underground hospitals dating back to the Greek Civil War. In the evening we will have a chance to review photos and discuss the next day itinerary.
On the third day of our Greece photography tour we will focus on cultural photography. We will have an extraordinary tour of the lakes with the fishermen living in the area and get a chance to hear their many stories, as well as admire the unspoiled, raw landscape that reveals itself to us. We will also have a cultural photography workshop and discover the daily lives of these charming and remote communities.
In the afternoon we will visit the lake island of Agios Achillios and capture the unique beauty of the archaeological site of the Basilica built by Tsar Samuel in the 10th century. We spend the night in the Prespa Lakes and get ready for travelling to Lesvos the next day.
On the fourth day of your Greece photography tour we will wake up early in the morning and head back to Thessaloniki. We will take the plane from Thessaloniki to the magnificent Lesvos island, where, according to the legend, Orpheus was buried. The flight from Thessaloniki to Lesvos takes approximately one hour, so we will reach the island by late noon.
There will be plenty of time to visit the capital of Lesvos, Mytilene and have a delicious dinner at the fisherman’s club in the port. Since our Greece photography tour is about exploring the local culture, the buzzing town of Mytilene is ideal. You will get the chance to capture unique scenes and, in the evening, we will have a feedback session and discuss photography insights.
With its unspoiled beaches & hidden gems, Lesvos is one of the highlights of our Greece photography tour, famous for its olive oil and Ouzo production and for its mouthwatering food.
And since our Greece photography tour is about experimenting with different types of photography, we will have two photo sessions in two unusual locations – a traditional olive press and an Ouzo distillery.
You will also get acquainted with a local cheese maker where you will learn the secrets of the delicious Feta cheese. We will take photographs of how the cheese gets made and learn about the Feta cheese tradition in Greece. We conclude this day of our Greece photography tour with a delicious dinner and traditional Greek music and dance.
The 7th day of our Greece photography tour is dedicated to experiencing Lesvos from the locals’ perspectives. Before sunrise we will go fishing with an experienced fisherman. There will be a chance for cultural and documentary photography as well as for catching the golden fish. And, just like a traditional Greek, after fishing we will enjoy a glass of Ouzo in the picturesque village of Agiassos and get a chance to taste one of the delicious local dishes.
In the afternoon, we will visit one of the Ottoman-era thermal baths, unwind and share our photography techniques. And since being one of the locals in Greece also means cooking delicious dishes, in the evening we will enjoy a cooking workshop with the elder ladies of the village. This amazing day of our Greece photography tour ends with a luxurious dinner and a traditional Greek dancing experience.
We dedicate our 7th day of the Greece photography tour to capturing the unique essence of the Lesvos beaches. There will be plenty of time for resting on the beach and having a swim in the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean. Of course, once again we will get the chance to taste some traditional Greek foods and drinks near the beach.
In the evening, we will take the boat to Chios where, according to the legend, the poet Homer was born. The boat trip to Chios takes three hours in which time you will have the chance to photograph the fiery sunset over the Mediterranean and perhaps witness spectacular marine life.
Famous for its mastic resin and believed to be the birthplace of Homer, Chios island is as surprising as it is beautiful. We will take some time to visit the Chios town with its charming castle and focus on architectural photography.
We will then depart towards the medieval villages in the south where mastic resin is produced. Once again, in your Greece photo tour you will be surprised by the many hidden gems this country holds. For every tourist attraction in Greece there is also an under-the-radar place that takes your breath away. We will spend the night in the medieval villages area (Mastichochoria).
The 9th day of our Greece photography tour is dedicated to orchards. We will visit a traditional mastic orchard and have a photography workshop there. Also known as “tears of Chios” the mastic is a special resin that people use as spice in foods.
After lunch, we will go visit the spectacular maze of fortified orange orchards in Kambos. We will also have a photography workshop in one of the orchards and get a chance to document the lives of the local Greek people.
In the evening, we will have a Greek party with delicious dishes, Greek music and traditional dances.
This may be the last day of our amazing Greece photo tour, but we will go home with amazing memories and spectacular photographs. And we still have an entire day to spend on Chios before our plane leaves for Thessaloniki at night. We will visit spectacular Chios beaches, have a chance to take a swim and review our photography portfolio from the Greece photography tour.
In the evening, we will take the plane to Thessaloniki and, once we get there, have a late-night goodbye dinner and share our impressions from the Greece photo tour.
Depending on the time your plane leaves, you may get the chance to explore the city some more. It was a pleasure having you in our Greece photography tour and we welcome you back anytime to show you more of Greece’s hidden gems.
